Selna-Mongini Park Planning
2022 Update: The Arizona State Parks and Trails Board approved the third round of State Parks Heritage Fund grants at their January 20, 2022 Board meeting. Town of Clarkdale was awarded a $500,000 Heritage Fund grant for improvements to Selna-Mongini Park in the category Local, Regional and State parks.
Public input and the skills of a landscape architect were used to create the current site plan based on the principles of fostering a healthy community and environment, youth engagement, community beautification and sustainability. The new and improved park area will include the following: activity areas, areas to passively enjoy and learn about the environment, landscaping and amenities. This plan is consistent with the Mission statement for the Park: "To revitalize Selna-Mongini Park so that it is once again a hub of community activity".
The Selna Ballfield and Mongini Park sites are both subject to soil remediation under the United Verde Soil Program. The Parks and Recreation Department and the Parks and Recreation Commission began a public outreach process in September of 2018 to better assess the wants and needs of the community while having the potential opportunity to redesign and upgrade the sites. The Draft Site Plan above is the product of community input collected through a series of Open Houses, a Public Hearing, and an online suggestion platform. Please take the opportunity to review the Draft Site Plan, and email Parks and Recreation Department or call 928-639-2460 with questions or concerns.
