Town Park to Re-Open July 4th
Clarkdale Town Park Re-Opening Scheduled for July 4th. June 5, 2018 (Clarkdale, Arizona) – With the new sod freshly laid in the Clarkdale Town Park this week, the restoration project is all but complete. Now, all we have to do is wait! In order to allow the new grass to fully establish before the large crowds descend for our summer events, we need to keep the park fenced as long as possible.
According the Clarkdale Town Manager Gayle Mabery, “The Town had hoped to have the park opened for the last concert in June. After further evaluation and consultation with landscape professionals, we’ve decided that allowing the grass to establish for an additional 9 days would make a big difference in its viability. We really don’t want to have come this far only to see the grass damaged by the traffic of a large event that is held before the grass is truly ready.”
With that in mind the park’s official Grand Re-Opening will be celebrated during the Town’s Annual Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration. The celebration kicks off at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4th with the flag raising at the Clarkdale Gazebo.
“There really couldn’t be a better day to celebrate the Re-Opening of the Town Park than the Fourth of July. It is Clarkdale’s quintessential hometown event, where many families come back to celebrate for the day. Opening the Town Park back up to the public on this special day just seems to make the most sense.” Mabery said.
Fortunately for concert attendees, the Town’s new View Deck of the Clark Memorial Clubhouse offers a fantastic alternate venue for concerts. Allyn Backus, who helps coordinate the Concerts for the Town’s Community Services Department, reports that the first concert on the View Deck was a great success. “We had great feedback from attendees at the first concert. The sunset views of Sycamore Canyon and Tuzigoot National Monument were just beautiful, and the Clubhouse’s historic setting made the events even more special.” said Backus. Rated for crowds up to 1,000 people, the new space can easily accommodate the 400-600 people that the Town expects for a typical Summer Concert. The June 9th concert (Sentimental Journey) will be held from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the View Deck, located behind the Clark Memorial Clubhouse at 19 N. 9th Street in Clarkdale. Announcements about other concert dates will be coming soon.
